"Pontiac is Dead" reads the headline at Edmunds Inside Line. The auto industry website reports, "According to a source at General Motors, the company will announce next Monday its new ‘faster, deeper' reorganization plan, which will likely include a death sentence for the Pontiac brand." A GM representative didn't exactly deny the report. Called for comment, GM Spokesman Tom Wilkinson told Inside Line, "There's nothing I can share with you at this time. Keep your eyes on our media site. Officially, nothing has changed with Pontiac's niche-brand status, until you hear differently."
Autoblog comments, "Pontiac's focus has been ill-defined (at best) over the decade, with solid products like the G8 coming to market alongside other less-than-stellar offerings (cough, G3)."
The report fits with rumors earlier in the week that GM was considering eliminating both Pontiac and GMC, but Inside Line has no speculation as to GMC's fate on Monday.
