Mercedes Slashes 2010 E-Class Price

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class could be quite a nice machine.  Automotive News reports, "The 2010 version, which goes on sale next month, includes features not available on the current S-class," which is a far more expensive car.  "

With a stiffer chassis than the 2009 model, and a refined adjustable air suspension, it will probably out-corner the car it replaces.  With direct injection, it will be more fuel-efficient, no matter which engine a buyer chooses.  New seats, the automaker says, will be even more comfortable than those in the '09 model.  The car even detects when its driver may be drowsy, and attempts to warn them.

 Must be more expensive, right?

Apparently, it will cost less.

Left Lane News reports, "Despite offering a number of new features, the 2010 model will list for $4,600 less than the current car."  V6-powered base E350 sedans "will list from $49,475 - $4,600 less than the E350's current price of $54,075." V8-powered E550 versions "will also see a significant price reduction, listing for $5,400 under the current model at $57,175. All prices include destination."

Autoblog explains, "Mercedes says the change in pricing, which it also affected with the introduction of the new C-Class two years ago, was put in place to bring the list price closer to the actual average transaction price. In other words, theoretically the actual price that a customer pays should be about the same."
