Nissan is recalling more than 360,000 Murano SUVs from model years 2003 through 2007 to correct a defect that could cause the engine to stall unexpectedly.
In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nissan explains that "the material used in the intake air ducts" may suffer from "premature aging," which can cause the ducts to shrink and separate from critical air intake system parts. That would cause the engine to stall, "increasing the risk of a crash."
Nissan dealers will inspect and replace the components free of charge. Dealers will begin contacting Murano owners about the problem July 6, but those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
