Recall Alert: Mazda3

Posted: Jun. 03, 2009 11:06 a.m.

Mazda has issued a recall for about 7,000 2009 Mazda3 sedans and hatchbacks due to a fault in the cars' electronic stability control system.

In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker explains that Mazda3 vehicles equipped with dynamic stability control do not comply with federal safety standards. During certain driving maneuvers, the stability control system could fail and lead to a loss of vehicle control.

Mazda dealers will inspect the units, and if necessary, replace them free of charge. Dealers should contact Mazda3 owners to arrange the repair, but the company has not yet provided a schedule for when that will happen. Those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500
