Recall Alert: 2009 BMW Z4

Posted: Aug. 20, 2009 10:08 a.m.

BMW is recalling an unspecified number of 2009 Z4 roadsters in order to correct an electrical defect that could lead to a safety belt failure.

In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Safety Administration, the automaker explains, "A defective crimp connector in a belt tensioner wiring plug may lead to increased electrical resistance of that connection," which could "cause the safety belt tensioner to fail to deploy in a crash, possibly resulting in increased injury to the seat occupant."

BMW has not yet provided the government an owner notification schedule or an explanation of how it plans to remedy the problem, but federal law requires the automaker to fix the defect free of charge.

Owners who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact BMW at (800) 831-1117.
