Nissan will issue a recall for more than 26,000 Altima and Maxima sedans from model years 2009 and 2010 in order to correct a suspension defect that could lead to a crash.
In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker explains, "The upper front strut insulators may have been manufactured out of specification resulting in a potential for the strut insulator to crack. If the strut insulator is cracked, there is a potential for the strut rod to come out of its mounting position, which could affect vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash."
Nissan dealers will replace both the left and right strut insulators free of charge in an effort to correct the problem. Dealers will begin notifying owners of the recall next month. Those who wish to make early repair arrangements may contact Nissan at 1-800-nissan1 (1-800-647-7261).
