What Color Is Your Car? It May Depend on Where You Live

Silver may be the most popular car color in America, but it's not necessarily common where you live.  According to data released by Ford Motor Company, Americans tend to buy cars that look like their neighbors' cars - so much so that cities seem to have favorite hues.

ABC News reports, "In warm places such as Phoenix and Dallas, most drivers prefer white cars.  In colder cities like Minneapolis, Pittsburgh and Detroit, red is the color of choice."  New Yorkers go conservative, with black and grey shades dominating.

The AP adds, "Sometimes, color preferences are logical. Buyers in hot cities, like Phoenix and Dallas, like white cars," for instance, while brown and green dominate cold Boston.

Other choices we make when we buy a car also seem to cluster by region.  The AP notes, "Boston was the top market for its four-cylinder engines, while Houston, the top market for pickup trucks, gets its vroom from V8s. San Francisco, Seattle and Los Angeles are the top markets for hybrids."  Washington, D.C. also made the list of hybrid hot-spots.

Turbocharged engines, Autoblog reports, are most common in the Denver.  After all, "turbocharged engines perform well at high altitudes."  Four-wheel-drive is also common in Denver, where "the snowy climes in the Rockies make four-wheel drive a must."
