Recall Alert: Nissan Sentra

Posted: Nov. 10, 2009 10:11 a.m.

Nissan has issued a recall order for about 10,000 Sentra sedans from model year 2009, in order to correct a defect that could affect brake performance.

In a recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker explains that, in some cases, "Brake fluid may leak from the master cylinder. If the amount of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir decreases to below the minimum level, the brake system warning indicator will illuminate as designed and the brakes will not function properly."

Dealers will replace the master brake cylinder assembly in affected cars, free of charge. The recall affects only Sentra sedans that feature master brake cylinders built by Bosch, a Nissan subcontractor. Sentra owners, however, should not attempt to determine on their own whether their vehicle is affected. Nissan dealers will begin contacting owners of recalled Sentras this month, but those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact Nissan at (800) 647 – 7261.
