Looking for a good car to commute in? AAA has your back. The travel and motor club has released its list of the best commuter cars.
AAA writes, "Long commutes have become an increasingly common daily activity for many Americans, and having the right vehicle for those long drives is key not only to saving money and being environmentally-friendly, but also staying safe and comfortable during many hours on the road."
The L.A. Times says, "The auto club evaluated hundreds of vehicle models and compiled a list of autos that make good cars for commuters. It evaluated vehicles on practicality, safety, comfort, fuel efficiency and affordability"
So, what's on the list? The Honda Insight and Ford Fusion are the top two, with AAA saying that the Insight "is among the ultimate in gasoline fuel economy while being reasonably comfortable for the driver and front-seat passenger. It’s also less costly and more fun to drive than some of its hybrid competitors." As for the Fusion, AAA says, "Four-cylinder versions offer an appealing combination of power, riding comfort and handling competence. The Hybrid offers even more economy, but the fuel savings come with a major bump in the purchase price."
But the list isn't just about a reliable, thrifty, ho-hum drive to work. AAA also created a list of cars that are affordable and practical for commuting, but that can also serve some recreational duty. Autoblog says, "The expanded list that includes vehicles that offer more than just commuting pleasure, namely the Chevy Corvette and Mercedes GL."
