Suzuki has recalled more than 46,000 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 2005-2006 XL-7 SUVs for a potentially faulty power steering pump.

According to NHTSA’s recall notice: “The tension adjuster pulley for the drive belt that operates the power steering pump and air conditioner compressor (if equipped) has an outer portion that is made of plastic. Repeated heat stress can cause the plastic material to deteriorate and pieces of the pulley can break off.”

Kicking Tires adds, “These pieces could get caught in the pulley or drive belt, breaking the belt and making steering more difficult. This could potentially lead to an accident.”

If you are an owner of one of these vehicles, your nearest Suzuki dealership will replace the affected part free of charge. For more information, call Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
