Lightning GT -- An Electric Ferrari-Killer with Four Motors

Despite a global downturn in the automotive market, one of the most important new vehicles appearing at this week's British Motor Show is an exotic sports car with an asking price higher than that of some Ferrari and Lamborghini products. 

The British-built Lightning GT is a jaw-dropping beauty, but that's not what makes the car significant, either.  The reason the GT matters is its appetite.  It doesn't use a single drop of gasoline.

The 2008 British Auto Show begins in London on Tuesday, July 22. Edmunds Inside Line says it's "gearing up for some notable world premieres." These include the V6-powered Lotus Project Eagle, a 2+2 sports car that is the automaker's first introduction since the Lotus Elise. Motor Trend says Lotus will produce "2000 Project Eagles per year with deliveries beginning in Spring 2009."

The British International Auto Show opens next week, and for 2008 it indeed goes "international."  While U.S. automakers are struggling, a tiny Mexico-city based automaker plans to introduce its first high-end sports car in London next week, and while no one has yet driven a working prototype, the little car puts some impressive numbers on paper.

Business Week reports, "Pontiac is unveiling a hardtop coupe version of its eye-catching Solstice roadster at this week's New York International Auto Show."  The Solstice Targa features a 31-pound removable roof panel "which culminates in a rear spoiler."
