Audi Unveils e-Tron Electric Supercar

Posted: Sep. 15, 2009 10:09:02 a.m.

If you ever need to distract a pair of gearheads for an hour, tell them that torque is a more efficient measurement of badass than horsepower - or tell them the opposite.  Either way, you'll start an argument that will hold their attention for as long as you need.

Ultimately, of course, it's a pointless diversion.  There is a relationship between horsepower and torque, you don't get one without the other, and the measurement of one in any ...

Audi Unveils R8 Spyder

Posted: Sep. 11, 2009 07:09:38 a.m.

Well, this should quiet the critics.

Audi's extraordinary R8 supercar is a superb handler that accelerates faster than myths about health care reform and offers a cabin that, for an exotic sports car, is surprisingly easy to live with. Everyone in the automotive press agrees on that much.

But it looks unusual. Huge, contrasting-color "blades" running behind the doors make it one of the most unique looking cars ever built. It's a look that either works for you ...

Posted: Sep. 08, 2009 09:09:29 a.m.

Lexus will unveil a sporty, small hybrid-powered hatchback at the Frankfurt Auto Show later this month. The car is just a concept at this point, but Lexus is known for releasing concept cars that are very close to future production cars - so the LF-Ch concept we see in Frankfurt may prove to be a car you can purchase in the near future.

Autoblog reports, "The hatchback is quite a looker, especially coming from Lexus, whose present lineup is relatively staid ...

Sporty-Looking Mini Coupe Concept Debuts

Posted: Aug. 26, 2009 10:08:33 a.m.

BMW's wildly successful Mini division has set the automotive press abuzz with photos of a car that may never be built - but if consumer reaction is taken into account, it may be.

Autoblog explains, "Rumors have been swirling for months about what BMW would do on August 26, 2009 for its Mini brand. After all, that is the fiftieth anniversary of the public debut of Alec Issigonis' original Mini. With most of the speculation revolving around either a coupe ...

Hyundai Bringing Super-Luxury Equus Sedan to U.S.

Posted: May. 08, 2009 11:05:19 a.m.

Will Americans buy a $75,000 Hyundai?  The Korean automaker thinks so.  Given the success of the Hyundai Genesis, the Korean automaker apparently believes we will.

USA Today reports that Hyundai is "toying with the idea of moving up in price point again - to $75,000 sedans. It's exploring whether the Equus, an updated large sedan that just went on sale in South Korea, can take on the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Lexus LS 460L in America ...

Posted: Apr. 22, 2009 10:04:19 a.m.

Rolls Royce used the Shanghai Auto Show this week to officially announce plans to build a new, less expensive (by Rolls Royce standards) model, which appears identical to the 200EX concept that made its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Motor Trend reports, "The name of the new model will be the Rolls-Royce Ghost, resurrecting an apparition-themed moniker that first appeared on a Rolls-Royce more than 100 years ago."

Automobile Magazine explains, "The Rolls-Royce Ghost name is meant ...

Porsche Panamera Unveiled at Shanghai Auto Show

Posted: Apr. 20, 2009 10:04:42 a.m.

Motor Trend calls it "genuine four seat luxury limo designed for 175mph."  Porsche insists it will sell 20,000 examples this year, recession or no recession, at six-figure prices.   And the styling?  It's been...well...divisive.

Porsche used the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, beginning this week, as an opportunity to unveil its first sedan, the 2010 Panamera.  Motor Trend reports, "Three versions of the Panamera will be available at launch -- the S, powered by a 400 hp, naturally aspirated ...

Ford, GM Paying for Test Drives

Posted: Apr. 16, 2009 10:04:13 a.m.

Car sales are so slow that some dealers are now offering $50 to anyone who test drives a car. The deal, at the moment, applies only in a very limited area.

Motor Trend explains, "If you live in the Northeast and haven't dropped by the New York Auto Show yet, you might want to make a point to stop by before it closes on Sunday. When you're there, stop by Ford and GM's booths and pick up ...

Scion iQ -- Toyota's Smart-Fighter Debuts in New York

Posted: Apr. 09, 2009 10:04:53 a.m.

The car Toyota is touting as its next trend-setting success boasts just 93 horsepower and measures barely ten feet long. To the automotive press, it means the days of marketing giant Sequoias to combat Surburbans and Expeditions are over. But the tiny Scion iQ may have a future in America.

"It appears that the horsepower wars are over," comments Edmunds Inside Line. "Scion took the wraps off its three-passenger iQ concept on Wednesday at the 2009 New York Auto Show ...
